Frequently asked questions

How much commission does Betfair charge in Australia?

A market base rate on your net winnings: 8% on most Australian racing, 10% on some states and codes such as NSW thoroughbreds, 6% on most sport and international racing, and 10% on NRL. The exact rate is on each market's Rules tab.

Why is Betfair commission different by state?

Each racing body charges Betfair its own race fields fee, and Betfair passes that through in the commission rate. That is why NSW racing sits at 10% while most other racing is 8%.

Do you pay Betfair commission on losing bets?

No. Commission is only taken from net winnings in a market. If you lose, or your bets in that market net to a loss, you pay nothing.

How do I compare Betfair odds with bookmaker odds?

Use the real back odds this calculator shows. 3.00 on Betfair at 8% pays like 2.84 at a bookmaker, so a bookmaker 2.90 is the better bet.

How does commission affect matched betting?

Higher commission means a bigger lay stake and a smaller conversion. Always enter your real rate in the matched betting or bonus bet calculator, or both bets will not balance.
